This consisted of repairing a compromised web server, malware removal, installation and configuration of a firewall, and virus scanner, re-configuring Apache and the hosting configuration, updating the Joomla version on 14 sites, along with all of the templates and all extensions, implementing additional site security measures, along with automated daily site backups.

Don't just take your hosting providers word for it, more often than not they back up your entire hosting account and not individual websites and store them in a proprietary system to lock you in to renewals etc.
